Cantaloop 'Avalanching' back onto the scene with new single.

'Avalanching' represents a different side to pop funk duo

Funk poppers Cantaloop are defying all genres and pigeonholes with new single 'Avalanching,' which is set to be released on June 16th 2014. And as the group Avalanches its way back into the public domain, fans should expect something a little different to the norm.
'Avalanching' throws a female vocalist into the Cantaloop mix, in the form of Sam Rogers who provides guest lead vocals, against the dulcet Dannie Dee lyric. Those new to Cantaloop will never have imagined that Sam isn't a regular fixture in the group, which is usually spearheaded by the duo of Justin Metti and Dannie Dee, such is the effortless way that she blends in with Cantaloop's sound.

While 'Avalanching' represents a change, it's a good one and the single still retains the typical fusion of seamless funk, R&B, soul and hip hop that you would expect from a group that has previously played alongside such established acts as Fun Lovin' Criminals, Del la Soul, and Gino Washington. The only difference this time around is that Sam sets a more serious tone and her soft, gentle tones blend effortlessly with Dannie's more striking vocals. A serious tone is appropriate because 'Avalanching' touches upon a real issue for the group.

The melancholy lament tells the story of one of Cantaloop's founding members who lost his life to cancer last year. He left a footprint on the people and family he knew and 'Avalanching' is Cantaloop's own way of celebrating his memory and his legacy. The track hop, skips, and waltzes through his life. The last stand blows from the trumpet, signaling the death of his lullaby, are a touching show of friendship and the impact he still has on the group today.

Such a delicate tale needs to be told and delivered in the right way and Cantaloop have produced an emotional, thought-provoking and touching eulogy to their close friend. The beautiful harmony between Sam and Dannie's vocals make for a wistful, heart-wrenching and reflective tale. When it came to producing the song with Sam's vocals, Dannie explains that it was an obvious move.

"We're songwriters and musicians. We don't try and conform to any style or stereotype, we just let the music take us on a journey and try to create something memorable every time. When we heard Sam perform, her voice, style and tone just suited the topic for 'Avalanching' and it shows how diverse our music can be, because we can fit our usual sound around new compositions," he said.

'Avalanching' is released on June 16th 2014 and will be available to download from iTunes. The single will be officially released during a launch event in Birmingham's Yardbird on June 13th 2014.
